The 2020 Dubai Expo marks the first World Expo held in the Middle East region. Among the 192 participating countries, China’s pavilion stands as one of the largest installations, covering 4,636 square meters.
Named “Light of China“, the pavilion presents China’s achievements through four thematic sections: Common Dreams, Common Earth, Common Home, and Common Future. The exhibition showcases advanced technologies including the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, high-speed rail simulation experiences, the “Kun” autonomous vehicle concept, and UBTECH robotics.
The pavilion’s design aligns with China’s “Belt and Road” initiative—a global infrastructure development strategy that aims to connect Asia, Africa, and Europe—and emphasizes building a community with a shared future for mankind. Visitors can explore exhibits highlighting China’s developments in aerospace, information technology, transportation, artificial intelligence, and so much more.
A distinctive feature of the China Pavilion is its daily evening light show. During the expo’s trial operation phase, this illumination display became a popular attraction, drawing significant visitor interest. The artistic direction for the lighting program was led by Mr. Sha Xiaolan (沙晓岚先生) from Funshine Culture (锋尚团队), who selected EK’s ORCA moving head fixtures, selected for their powerful beam output and waterproof resistance, suitable in Dubai’s climate conditions.
The Panama Pavilion director, among other international representatives, has praised the Chinese light show as one of the most visually striking nighttime experiences within the Expo grounds, reinforcing the installation’s effectiveness as both an artistic and cultural statement.
