The 2024 Honor of Kings KPL Finals—the highest league tournament for the multiplayer online game—took place on 16 November at Beijing’s Workers’ Stadium, featuring an unprecedented lighting installation designed to create an immersive esports atmosphere for both in-person and broadcast audiences.
Shanghai-based Yimu Guanghe Visual design team (一幕光合视觉设计团队) developed the lighting concept around the theme of “golden rain,” incorporating elements from the game’s visual identity into the overall art direction. The production utilized a 1,500-square-meter stage area with a 70 by 30-meter-high main screen and 45-meter floor display, establishing new technical benchmarks for esports competitions in China.
The lighting design employed 1,700 EK fixtures strategically positioned to create a four-sided arena effect, with distinct visual layers that enhanced the three-dimensional quality of the performance space. Technical director Zheng Zhaoliang (郑昭梁) explained that the lighting design aimed to simulate the game’s visual environment while providing broadcast-quality illumination for players and presenters.
The equipment deployment included 350 TERMINATOR outdoor-rated moving heads, 390 COLLIDER BAR IP waterproof LED strobe bars, 310 Kx→100+ profile fixtures, 420 COLLIDER FC strobe units, and 80 DIAMONDBACK multi-function bars. This diverse array of fixtures allowed programmers to create dynamic beam effects, synchronized strobe sequences, and precise key lighting.
The Kx→100+ fixtures, featuring high color rendering capabilities (CRI Ra≥98), served as the primary illumination source for broadcast cameras, ensuring accurate color reproduction for both in-venue screens and streaming platforms. Meanwhile, the IP66-rated TERMINATOR units provided weather-resistant performance for the stadium environment.
