The 2024 National Sports Week—abbreviated by locals as PON XXI 2024—in Aceh and North Sumatra featured cutting-edge lighting technology during its opening and closing ceremonies, with 150 units of EK’s Billy The Kid discharge lamps illuminating both spectacles.
Held from September 9-20, 2024, this twenty-first edition of Indonesia’s premier multi-sport event brought together approximately 7,000 athletes from 38 provincial contingents competing in 39 sports disciplines. The ceremonies took place at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium in Banda Aceh, where tens of thousands of spectators witnessed the performances in person while millions more viewed the broadcasts nationally.
The compact yet powerful Billy The Kid fixtures proved ideal for the large-scale production requirements of both ceremonies. Living up to their namesake, these lighting units deliver impressive performance despite their small size, producing over 200,000 lux from just 420 watts of power consumption.
During the opening ceremony, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of the host provinces, the lighting systems created dramatic beam effects that enhanced the traditional and contemporary performances. The closing celebration similarly benefited from the fixtures’ precise movements and solid beam projection capabilities, complementing the event’s final festivities.
The National Sports Week, first held in 1948, continues to be Indonesia’s most significant domestic sporting competition, serving as a talent identification platform for international events including the Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games.
