On 21 November 2024, American singer-songwriter Charlie Puth launched the Asian leg of his “Something New World Tour” at the iconic Wuyuanhe Stadium in Haikou, China. The concert showcased not only Puth’s musical talents but also cutting-edge lighting design that enhanced the audience experience.
Known to local fans as “Duan Mei (eyebrow slits)” due to the distinctive scar in his brow, the Grammy-nominated Puth performed fan favorites including “See You Again”, “We Don’t Talk Anymore”, and “Left & Right” during his 90-minute set. These hits resonated particularly with China’s post-90s generation who grew up with his music.
The production design, developed around the concept “Symphony of Light and Shadow”, employed a multi-dimensional approach that focused attention on the performer while creating an immersive environment for fans. The show’s technical director employed the use of several flagship EK lights with high brightness, color rendering index, and color saturation to create a layered and emotionally-rich visual atmosphere.
A standout visual element was the tunnel of light created using 29 ALLIGATOR rotating beam fixtures arranged in a circular formation. This installation produced effects resembling a three-dimensional portal—with coordinated beam movements, color transitions, and strobe patterns, the stage was transformed into a surreal, immersive lightscape.
The lighting equipment also included 116 Kx→100+ LED profile moving head lights, selected for their precision optics and color rendering capabilities. These fixtures provided even and full illumination that accurately captured the performer’s expressions and movements while maintaining Puth’s true skin tones.
The light design for Puth’s opening show established the visual standard for the remainder of his Asian tour dates, which will end in December 2024.
