After a four-year hiatus, the popular Chinese singing competition “Singer 2024” has returned to screens with the strongest lineup of vocal talents yet, including international guests such as Grammy-nominated American singer Adam Lambert and Australian singer-songwriter Lenka Kripac. Jointly produced by Hunan TV and Mango TV, the programme was highly anticipated by global music enthusiasts and EK is proud to be a creative partner for such a momentous project.
The stage lighting design, led by Director Dong Jiang (董江) and SANGONG Culture (三工文化), was tasked with crafting customized effects for each of the 23 artists over 12 rounds of performances. Furthermore, the show adopted a full live broadcast format for the first time to position itself as a “World Cup of Music”, posing some production challenges for the team.
The team rose to the task—creating light experiences that complemented each singer’s distinct style and emotional delivery while striving to bring out the meaning of the chosen song. A notable element was the incorporation of circular lighting motifs, with fan-shaped light beam effects to symbolize cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
Several EK lighting products made their debut on the programme, including the TERMINATOR and the PIXEL Q50. The former features powerful, straight beams with pure aerial pattern effects that add depth and dimension to the stage. Other supporting products include the H1 three-in-one moving head, the COLLIDER FC LED strobe, the COLLIDER BAR IP LED strobe bar, and the ALLIGATOR.
Altogether, the stunning audio-visual experience garnered 5.3 billion views on Weibo, China’s leading microblogging platform.
